Charity Law

Charities have existed for centuries but have become an increasingly essential part of society – in return for which they benefit from significant tax exemptions and reliefs. However, their recognition and continuance as charities is subject to fairly stringent controls and regulations by statute and the Charity Commission.

We act for many charities – of all sizes and complexities – and have a great deal of experience and expertise to help and advise them on all aspects of charity law including:

  • Formation (including preparation of the constitutional documents)
  • Registration
  • Good governance and compliance
  • Duties and liabilities of the Trustees
Restructuring – by incorporation or merger.

Also however, the activities of charities are in many respects the same as any other commercial business. We, as a very strong commercial law firm, are well placed to satisfy all of the legal needs of charities, including:

  • Buying, selling and leasing of property
  • Employment contracts and disputes
  • Contracts with customers and suppliers
  • Funding.
