Why did you choose the law?

When I was younger the law fascinated me and I had the opportunity to undertake some work experience with a firm of solicitors in Coventry. This fueled my passion for legal work and, after finishing school, I went back to the same firm where I was later taken on as an articled clerk and qualified 5 years later as a solicitor.

Tell us a bit about how you got here…

After qualifying as a solicitor in 1986, I worked as an assistant solicitor for 2 years and then bravely decided to “go it alone”.

I set up my own practice, Button & Cayley, in 1988. The firm later became known as Button Legal LLP. I ran the law firm in its various guises as senior partner for 25 years when it merged to form the new firm of Band Hatton Button in 2013.

At the 2012 Coventry First “First Pro” awards I was voted ‘Professional of the Year’ and received the prestigious award at a dinner attended by over 300 members of the local business community. I am a past President of the Warwickshire Law Society and am currently the Honorary Secretary of the Society.

Following the merger, I headed up the Commercial Property department of Band Hatton Button until April 2018 when I succeeded Philip Costigan as Senior Partner.

What does your day job look like?

There isn’t really a typical day in the world of a Commercial Property solicitor but I love the variation of the work and building rapports with clients and contacts.

Work I commonly deal with includes acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant work, site assembly and development site sales.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I live in Leamington Spa and am married with two children. I have a strong interest in fundraising and, over the years, have raised many thousands of pounds for worthy local charities.

I am a keen member of Coventry Leofric Lions Club and have recently taken over the presidency of the club.

I am a governor of a local school and a trustee of a number of local charities.

In my spare time I enjoy walking, reading and foreign travel. I am also passionate about classic cars and have a small collection including a Daimler, an E Type Jaguar, a Morris Minor and a Wolseley.

“Nick Button and his team always give 100% and I would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends.”
