Why did you choose the law?

It is too long ago to remember why I chose the law as a profession but had probably just watched Charles Laughton in ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ or read ‘Bleak House’.

Tell us a bit about how you got here…

I am a Partner and Head of our Corporate and Commercial Department.  I studied law at Cambridge University and subsequently trained in London where, following qualification in 1987, I spent 9 years advising on transactional work and commercial contracts.

I moved to Coventry in 1994 and have continued to practise in corporate and commercial law ever since.

What does your day job look like?

I advise on every stage of the company life cycle from start up to sale as well as the steps along the way including financing, commercial contracts, joint ventures, investments and re-organisations.

In the last 12 months, I have acted on transactional matters in the following business sectors: electrical, plumbing, manufacturing, consultancy services, estate agency, pharmaceutical, textiles, construction, software services, architecture, retail.  I can also advise on intellectual property including IP protection and exploitation.

I listen to clients, and endeavor to fully understand their needs and the best way of achieving them so that their commercial priorities can be met as speedily and effectively as possible.

I have built up an extensive range of local contacts and act for a number of local as well as national clients.  I have broad experience in my chosen field built up during nearly 30 years of practice.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I am a Governor of the RNIB Pears Centre for Specialist Learning and the RNIB Three Spires Academy.  I am also Chairman of the Coventry and Warwickshire Reinvestment Trust.

I live in Leamington Spa and am an enthusiastic sportsman.  I run, play five-a-side football and badminton and am also a keen golfer.
