Why did you choose the law?

Truthfully, I had no idea what I wanted to do or be when I left school at 18 - I just knew I needed a job whilst I figured it out. I was lucky enough to land a role at a law firm, with absolutely no idea what to expect. I quickly realised how much I enjoyed law and the challenges that come with it. I haven’t looked back since.

Tell us a bit about how you got here…

I began my career straight after sixth form as a junior secretary at a law firm in Oxfordshire, eventually progressing to a legal secretary within the residential department. After eight years, I decided I wanted to qualify as a solicitor. I joined Band Hatton Button as a paralegal in the commercial department, where I was fortunate enough to begin an apprenticeship route to qualification, following my earlier paralegal qualification through CILEx. It’s been a steady, hands‑on journey, and one I’m really proud of.

What does your day job look like?

I currently work in Plot Sales for developers, supporting senior colleagues with land acquisitions and site set‑ups. I also assist with a range of commercial matters, giving me great exposure to different areas of practice and a strong foundation as I work toward qualification.

No two days are the same - one day I might be preparing and issuing contract packs, or replying to enquiries, exchanging or completing, the next I could be assisting a senior colleague on an agreement for a development set up. The variety keeps me on my toes and I’m constantly learning.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love spending time outdoors. I do a lot of running (my poor knees!) and walking the dogs - I have two German Shepherds, and I wouldn’t be without them, not even the noise or the mud. I’m always happy when I can get away too, whether that’s travelling to Malta to visit family or heading to the mountains for a skiing trip.
