About Me
I began my career in law straight after sixth form, although it wasn’t part of a long-term plan at the time. Like many people leaving school, I wasn’t entirely sure what career path I wanted to follow, but I knew I wanted to gain experience and build a career. I was fortunate enough to secure a role at a law firm in Oxfordshire, and it didn’t take long for me to realise how much I enjoyed the legal profession and the challenges it brings.
Starting as a junior secretary, I progressed to a legal secretary role within the residential department and spent eight years developing my knowledge and experience. I later decided that I wanted to qualify as a solicitor and joined Band Hatton Button as a Paralegal in the Commercial Property department. Having already completed a paralegal qualification through CILEx, I was given the opportunity to continue my development through the apprenticeship route to qualification. It has been a rewarding, hands-on journey and one that I am incredibly proud of.
My Role
I work within the Commercial Property department, primarily supporting our Plot Sales team and developers. My role involves assisting senior colleagues with land acquisitions, site set-ups and the sale of plots on development sites.
No two days are the same. On any given day, I may be preparing and issuing contract packs, responding to enquiries, exchanging or completing transactions, or assisting with agreements and documentation relating to development projects. I also support a range of wider commercial property matters, which gives me valuable exposure to different areas of practice and helps me build a strong foundation as I continue working towards qualification.
What I Enjoy Most
One of the things I enjoy most about my role is the variety. Every matter brings different challenges, which means there is always something new to learn. I enjoy being involved in the progression of developments from their initial set-up through to plot sales and seeing projects move forward.
I also value the opportunity to work closely with experienced colleagues and learn from their expertise. I enjoy developing my skills, taking on new challenges and expanding my knowledge as I progress in my career.
Outside the Office
Outside of work, I enjoy spending as much time outdoors as possible. I enjoy running almost every day, although my knees may not always agree with that decision, and I spend a lot of time walking my two German Shepherds. They certainly keep life interesting, and despite the mud, noise and endless amounts of fur, I would not be without them.
I also love travelling and making the most of opportunities to get away, whether that is visiting family in Malta or heading to the mountains for a skiing trip. Spending time with family, friends and my dogs is how I like to switch off and recharge outside of work.
